HOW TO: Easy Harem Shorts For Your Little!
HOW TO: EASY HAREM SHORTS FOR YOUR LITTLE!
What you will need for this tutorial:
1. Woven Cotton Fabric for the legs (I used quilter’s cotton from Joanns)
2. Jersey Knit Fabric for the waistband & cuffs (I bought some from Walmart)
3. Scissors/ Rotary Cutter
4. Cutting Mat/ Measuring utensil
6. Sewing Machine
8. Whatever other y I forgot that you need-
**Oh, wash your woven fabric first because shit will shrink- I forgot to and also didn’t compensate for this so these may not fit my little man after a wash.
***Note to self, make shit bigger next time-
I didn’t have a pattern for these shorts, I kinda just guessed at what I was doing and went from there. I measured out the shorts with the cotton folded- I drew out my pattern on the fold & cut that way. One mistake I made was not making the back of the pattern a little larger to compensate for fluffy cloth diaper donk- I just traced the first cutout & went along with that.
-For the waistband I measured 9in X 18in & cut-
-For the cuffs I measured 5in X 9in-
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE STRETCH GOING SIDE TO SIDE OR ELSE THAT SHIT WONT FIT THE WAY YOU NEED IT TO!
Now we are ready for sewing–
I like to start by getting the cuffs and waistband started & out of the way.
-For the cuffs you will fold hamburger style- that’s left to right/ short side to short side (if that shit makes sense) & sew a stretch straight stitch to compensate for the stretchiness. I also like to do a zig zag stitch over the edges to “finish” it off- if you have a serger, here is where you can use it.
-For the waistband, fold hot dog style, & then hamburger style (which means fold that shit down and over!)
Once you’ve completed that you’ll do the same as you did with with the cuffs, stretch straight stitch with a zig zag along the edges!
BOOM! SUPER CUTE CUFFS & WAISTBAND!
Now for the pants part! Match them up with the pretty side in & ugly side out! Straight stitch down the sides and along the inner leg piece, then zig zag the edges to finish those fuckers off & stop any fraying
Here comes the part that confuses some, but I’m going to try and break this shit down so it is understandable.
-Flip your pants so the are the pretty side out.
Let’s do the waistband first.
You’re going to want the raw edges of the band meeting the raw edges of the pants.
It’s going to look like the band is folded down.
Keep in mind, the band is smaller than the width of the pants, so when pinning and sewing, you’re going to want to stretch the band out.
-Before pinning, mark the middle of the back of the pants & use the vertical seam as the starting point with it on the middle of the back. Pin here.
-Next I always pin the middle of the front & the sides as well
–This step can get hard because you have to stretch the band while pinning to get it in the correct spots.
—Pin around as much as you want to. I normally just do the 4 so I can stretch easily while I sew.
I do a straight stretch stitch around the whole waist (make sure to stretch the band with the cotton!) & then I do a zig zag along the edges (stretch that shit!) to finish it off and stop any fraying with the cotton.
Cuff time! This is going to be the same as the waistband, but smaller & you’ll do these fuckers twice.
*Remember, raw edges against each other.
-I pin twice on these instead of 3 times because these are much smaller. So, once on each vertical seam.
-Straight stretch stitch & zig zag around after to finish off the edges & to stop any fraying.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO STRETCH THE CUFFS TO MATCH UP TO THE COTTON AS YOU SEW.
For a visual on sewing the cuffs, I found a picture on google images as an example & have linked the site I got it from HERE.
AND THERE YAH HAVE IT!!
Fold down the cuffs once you have finished & pull up the waistband!
